Additional Information: SUmmary: In this seminar I will discuss two recent research projects in our lab on the discovery, characterization, and biological interpretation of two parts of the coral holobiont: 1) a ubiquitous bacterial parasite of reef forming corals that causes reduced growth and increased disease susceptibility in endangered Caribbean corals and 2) +ssRNA endogenous viral elements in the metagenomes of corals and genomes of the coral photosynthetic protist symbiotic partner Symbiodinicaeae who's evolutionary and biological roles we are just beginning to unravel.
