Rutgers graduate students from the Department of Art History examine the topics The Social Documentary Project, Social Documentary and Formalism, and Social Documentary and Identity. This student symposium is the culminating event for a graduate exhibition seminar, Reading Documetary Photography, taught by Professor Andres Zervigon, Rutgers Department of Art History, and Donna Gustafson, Ph.D., the Zimmerliís Andrew W. Mellon Liaison for Academic Programs and Curator. The seminar, as well as an exhibition planned for 2017, takes the museumís photography collection as focus. Students helped to shape the exhibition's organizing themes, participated in the selection of works from the collection, and suggested loans that are both suitable and available. The papers presented reflect their research. A reception follows. The event is free and open to the public.
