“Terminal Lance” is drawn from Uriarte’s experiences in the Marine Corps, where he served two tours in Iraq, first as a turret gunner in 2007 and then as a combat artist and photographer in 2009, rising to the rank of Lance Corporal. Using his post-9/11 GI Bill, he received a BFA in Animation from California College of the Arts. Selected drawings from The White Donkey, based on Uriarte’s first deployment to Iraq, are on view at the Zimmerli through December 30, 2018 in conjunction with Self-Confessed! The Inappropriately Intimate Comics of Alison Bechdel.
